I am a civil engineer from a small town in southeastern Mississippi, about 40 miles from the Gulf Coast. I am enrolled in the Distance Learning program at Auburn University this fall, taking two environmental engineering courses. I will also be taking my PE exam this April.

Thoughts to Sleep On

Print this Article

Well, today (or should I say yesterday) was a pretty fulfilling day. I went to work, finished some tasks before my day was over, and came home. Once home, I took a short nap, and then K and I went out to eat at Ruby Tuesday. Man the food! I ended up completely stuffed. I must say, the Church Street Chicken was delicious!

Well, not much has really happened today in the way of news, except for the fact of over 9,000 arrests being made nationwide between April 16 and 23. That's a LOT of arrests! Over 1,000 of those were sex offenders that had become fugitives. I believe that is the largest cooperation of law enforcement agencies nationwide that I have ever heard of! Go Law Enforcement!

Now, if we could only arrest the 2,000 or so more sex offenders that have went "missing" since Hurricane Katrina...what a much better world this would be! (As a side note, I believe most of these are from New Orleans). I agree with the guy would said that New Orleans is a toilet bowl long overdue for a flushing!

That brings up another sore subject...I am so sick and tired of hearing about "poor, poor" New Orleans in the news that I am about ready to vomit! I'm sorry, but more devastation was wrought on the Gulf Coast of Mississippi (where I reside) than over there in the Toilet Bowl. Yes, it was bad in New Orleans...but those people who didn't leave brought it upon themselves...Haven't we learned that we must take care of ourselves, and not rely on the Government (that's ANY government) to bail us out?? If only those people would have taken some initiative and done that, then they wouldn't be in this mess...And quit complaining about not having any money!! There are plenty of jobs out there for everyone. For example, Cracker Barrel AND Ruby Tuesday in Moss Point, MS are hiring!! Not to mention of dozens, if not hundreds, of businesses along the MS Gulf Coast who are still hiring...Eight months after Katrina!!

Well, I think I have ranted enough...Good night, everyone, and may God bless you and yours!
