Morning Coffee - A New Life
Good morning all! It is May 1st, a new month and the time of year when new growth is abundant. So what would be more appropriate than taking a look at how we are to live a new life?
This morning's verses are Romans 6:3,4:
Know ye not, that so many of us were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in the newness of life.
So what does Paul mean by these verses? First off, Paul is addressing Christians here, not those who do not believe. So it applies to everyone who as accepted Jesus as their Lord. So let's take a look at the first part.."baptized into Jesus Christ...into his death." This is a figurative passage, because we are not literally immersed into Jesus' physical death. I believe this means that when we believe that Jesus Christ is the only son of God, and we confess Him as our Lord and believe that God raised Him from the dead, we are then totally and completely immersed into Jesus the Anointed. We are then saying death to the "old man", and we are to begin living as a "new man". We are putting off our old ways and habits and are saying that we are going to follow Jesus' example.
The second statement (which is the beginning of v. 4) is saying we are putting our old ways and habits "into the ground", utterly throwing them away. And like Jesus being raised from the grave in a new, glorified body by God, in this manner we should also live. That means totally forsaking every unrighteous thing in our past and conduct ourselves in a new life, dedicated totally to God.
I hope everyone has a good day today! God bless!
